Stranded after his car breaks down, young mechanic Pete hitches a ride from Frank. As they drive, it becomes apparent that Frank’s dark and dangerous past will shatter both of their lives.
The Hitchhiker is a 30 minute, thriller that was independently produced in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Hitchhiker takes it’s visual style from film noir and expressionism, utilizing dramatic lighting from that period and rear screen projection techniques. The film explores concepts of artifice, consciousness, identity and morality.
The Hitchhiker was selected to screen at Calgary International Film Fest (CIFF) in 2015 as part of their Alberta Spirit Gala. It also screened at Action on Film Fest in California and at the Jasper Short Film Festival where it won The People’s Choice Award.
